To ensure that the commission has a better understanding of your submission, we would ask that you address the key components outlined in the Submission Guide. Written submissions will be accepted until November 30, 2007.

By registering in advance, you will be guaranteed an opportunity to present your opinions and ideas to the Apprenticeship Futures Commission panel. Information regarding session dates and times are available on the Consultation Schedule page.

To ensure the Commission has a better understanding, please address, at a minimum, the components in the Submission Guide at your chosen consultation session.

Please note: Priority at the public consultations will be given to those who register in advance. For planning purposes, presentations will be scheduled in 15 minute intervals, allowing a minimum of 10 minutes for presentations and 5 minutes for questions and answers from the Commission members. Depending upon the number of participants, it may be possible to provide additional time for scheduled presentations and to hear submissions from individuals who attend the public consultations without registering.

Background Information

Approximately 3,000 apprentices attend technical training each year, representing over 50 per cent of the total apprentices registered with the Apprenticeship Branch;

  • The national Construction Sector Council’s report Construction Looking Forward Labour Market Requirement from 2007 – 2015 for Manitoba estimates that the province will need to replace approximately 4,500 workers in the construction trades to maintain current workforce levels, and recruit over 2,500 additional workers to meet demands over the forecasting period.
  • Manitoba has chosen to focus on the next four years to meet industry’s immediate labour force requirements.   The department’s strategy will be to concentrate efforts on increasing the number of apprenticeship training seats by 4,000 over the next four years.

To gather feedback on strategies to enhance and grow the apprenticeship system, several consultation sessions will be offered across Manitoba in October and November.
